Evening all,
Today dawned overcast and grey with a threat of rain. So I thought today would be a good day to seek out a couple of Wrecks and Relics on my list to find whilst in the Perth area.
First stop was at the Claremont Quarter in SW Perth. This is a modern well appointed shopping mall so anyone bringing female relatives along this is a good place to leave them for a few hours. Having picked up the retail items I was after I headed for the Barracks. They are located on the beach and are home to the Australian equivalent of the SAS.
I was after a UH1 in the SAS Museum and also a stored CH47 in the barracks itself. On arrival at the base I parked in the visitor parking and went to the guardhouse. When I asked for what I wanted I found that despite what it says online the SAS Museum has no public access as instead of it being a museum the UH1 is actually used for live training!
The guard on duty however, did allow me to drive into the barracks to see the CH47 which is stored on the Parade Ground in the far corner.
Therefore logged
A15-152 CH47D RAAF*
Then a check to see if anything was due in at Perth of any interest which it wasn’t so I then headed to Cottesloe Beach and enjoyed a long walk along the promenade. At least by now the sun had come out.
