Hi all,
Back in January, I booked a cheap October day return to squeeze in a cheeky Toulouse trip. This trip got more expensive when Ryanair then rescheduled the early Sunday morning departure to late evening, leaving me with the crazy situation of Ryanair wanting to fly me out to Toulouse and have me arriving there after the return flight home. After some time on Ryanair’s chat function, they put us on the Saturday evening flight which meant that we had to absorb the hotel cost. We assembled at Stansted during the evening of Saturday 21st October 2023 for a smooth and on-time Ryanair flight FR281 on EI-EBK.

Toulouse/Blagnac
I didn’t want to risk trying to pick up a hire car late at Toulouse Airport only to find those desks shut if our flight was late, and so went for a hotel within walking distance of the terminal. As on a budget, I went for the Aerel Hotel Aéroport Blagnac and would stay there again as a nice small clean room with good shower, towels and gel was provided. My kind of no nonsense and to the point place and ideal for a short stay without paying ‘proper’ airport hotel prices – check-in after hours was done by prior agreement and a code was left for us to enable retrieval of the room key from a key box right by the room door.
As it was, when we arrived the Europcar desk was one of the few still open and so I completed the formalities there and then to save time the next day. Because I knew that we wouldn’t need the car for long the next day and not many miles would be driven, I was talked into trying out my first ever electric car hire. I only agreed to this when they said that it could be returned without being fully charged – I think as long as over 75% left on battery. When she gave me the mileage range of this car, I knew we were never going to use 25%. Just for future reference, there is a big charging area within the big roundabout in front of the terminal now. The future is slowly coming to us……
It is my experience that a lot of airport hotels charge for parking and as I hadn’t stayed at the Aerel before, I left the hire car in the Europcar lot and walked to the hotel. Good decision as parking was chargeable there. By 8am the next day, we all walked back to the airport and started off the usual circuit by going to the top floors of number 1 and 2 car parks to look across at the Airbus facility. Being a Sunday, we didn’t expect to see any ground movements on the Airbus side but over the day we did witness a few things being moved around. Our circuit around Blagnac was really easy as no traffic (or workers) around. We got really lucky as Dan Raistrick was also here on this day and he put out a comprehensive log on the Digital Airliners blog which made our efforts a lot easier and tied up one or two we couldn’t read ourselves.
