TOUR ADVERT
As a eleven day trip, we will spend quality time at EAA AirVenture/Oshkosh and Chicago.
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is an annual gathering of aircraft held each summer at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The event is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association, and is the largest of its kind in the world. The show lasts a week and you can normally expect to see at least 3,500 aircraft at this event alone.
Aviation as a whole is widely represented starting from the lighter side with gliders and hot air balloons, right through to the heavier with currently serving military aircraft and some airliners.
The main showground areas contain homebuilt, exhibition, general aviation, ultralight, vintage & warbird aircraft. Also of interest elsewhere are the AirVenture museum, Basler turbo DC-3 conversions, FBO areas, Pioneer Field/helicopters and the Seaplane base.
We will be staying at the University of Wisconsin located close to the airfield and will have the transport to be able to visit nearby Fond du Lac and Appleton airfields where many Oshkosh overflow aircraft can be also found.
Other than spending six days at Oshkosh, we also take some time out to look at other aviation areas of interest between Oshkosh and Chicago. This will take in museums, wrecks & relics, general aviation fields and the main airports in Chicago.
We will visit;
Chicago/O’ Hare airport –
hub of American & United
Chicago/Midway airport –
hub of Southwest
Chicago Executive/Pauwakee airfield
Milwaukee/General Mitchell airport
Milwaukee/Lawrence J.Timmerman airfield
Russell Military Museum- Zion
Sylvania airfield
Appleton (F-86 on display)
Chicago/Blue Island (A-7 on display)
Chicago/Brookfield (F-86 on display)
Tour cost is £1800 based on twin room sharing. This includes the return flight from Manchester or London, 9 nights accommodation, ground transport, 6 days entry for EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh and entry into all the museums. Not bad value for over 3,500 aircraft. The weather was amazing for last years event and we saw a bumper haul of aircraft as a result!
