Hi all,
Having missed the arrival of the Nigerian Air Force Citation 680 whilst enjoying myself in Italy with the good lady, I was very pleased they left it outside for as long as they did. Managed a few clear photographs of it….

Next up was a base tour of RAF Syerston. Many thanks to Peter Nelson for arranging this and allowing me to be a member of Surrey Aviation Group for the day. A lot of money was raised for charity and I scored three Vikings and one Vigilant – happy days.

Gamston
I know that some people (yes you John Tomlinson) seem to have all the luck here, but I never do. I asked one of the fire crew but he was too busy to help and also at the tower building where there was a chap at the reception area there, and he too delivered a firm no. A couple of rear hangar doors were open as it was a hot day, so a few sneaky peeks (without entering said hangars) yielded the following.

Then onto a few new airfields for me, starting with Headon Farm, Headon. We caught someone packing away an unregistered ultralight and he pointed us towards the airfield owner. The owner was happy for me to look around and take photos, as long as I was escorted.

Forwood Farm, Treswell was next. Only the Rallye was outside and the hangar was locked up. I went to the house nearby and spoke to the owner. After a quick chat about wanting to see the Tiger Moth, he produced keys and then opened the hangar up for inspection. Again photographs were not a problem. The hangar looked spotter proof, so please ask if you want to see the hangar inmates.

The best stop for me today was Newark Air Museum as I haven’t visited since 1995 and there has been a fair bit of change here, all for the better. You can see that this great collection is cared for and I hope that this report and the pictures encourage some of you to not leave it as long as I did to visit again.

Tollerton
Another place that I haven’t had much luck at in recent years, a bit like Gamston. Of course, I was after the ex-Saudi Diamonds but I also needed quite a few of the residents. Annoyingly all the hangars seemed to be open but I couldn’t find anyone who was willing to show me around. I tried the fire crew, the flying club, a pilot returning from the hangars and somebody near the helicopter outfit. There are lots of signs clearly saying do not go past this point, so it was a very frustrating visit for me. If there is anybody reading this, that flies from or knows somebody at Tollerton that might help me with a future visit, I’d be happy to hear from you.
I didn’t bother the chap in tower as there was a sign on the door saying do not disturb unless on official business – the fire crew chap confirmed that it would be a straight no anyhow if I had taken that approach. The fire guy to be fair to him, did say he was too busy and that if I came back on a different day, they might be able to help.
