Henley-on-Thames – Saturday 8th June 2019 (Grant Robinson)

Hi all,

today I checked up on a Oxfordshire wreck & relic that I had not seen in that location before. This was ex-Swiss Air Force Vampire J-1169 which I first saw flying at Emmen in May 1989……..

At the co-ordinates below, turn of the A4155 in to Bolney Lane. This is not a tarmac surfaced road and with its many holes is more suited to the 4x4s and horse box stuff that I saw going down there.

51°30’52.1″N 0°53’32.0″W (51.514473, -0.892232)

The gated entrance behind which the road that you need to lead you to the Venom can be found at;

51°31’08.8″N 0°53’00.3″W (51.519119, -0.883428)

The Vampire is located out on a large field and if the gate is shut, this aircraft can’t be seen from here. In that case then it looks like the road goes on further a short way and when that ends there seems to be a footpath that continues on towards the River Thames. I’m sure that you would get a view across the field from somewhere down there if you leave the car and do a bit of walking……..

Best regards,

Grant Robinson
