I was not going to post this report, however after a chat with a few friends they thought that it was appropriate to let forum members know of the disappointing incident that happened here. I would kindly ask that you read this ‘incident’ report, however, as I am sure that we will all be annoyed at this, there is NO NEED to make any more comments and clog the forum.
Before our final stop of the trip we contacted the caravan site owners and asked if we could visit, however he explained that whilst he was ok for us to visit he was not happy at an incident that took place earlier in the day. He said that during the day he had visits by up to a total of 40 people who wanted to view the aircraft at his caravan site. One person took it upon himself to move one particular aircraft without permission, as he had decided that he did not like the way it was set up for a photograph……………………WHY!!!!
Whilst moving the aircraft the owner said that this person had put his finger through the bodywork and thus caused damage. Whilst he was furious he decided to move the aircraft to the caravan site entrance so that no one needed to go on to the caravan site property to view the aircraft in question and that photographs could still be taken. Considering the incident, that was certainly a very pragmatic thing to do.
As I mentioned, we were allowed to visit and take photographs and had a pleasant 20 minute conversation with his wife who explained the above and we apologised on behalf of the aviation community. Whether all four aircraft will remain at the main gate is unknown. I would suggest that any future visitors contact the owners before visiting. One redeaming factor is that they were only inundated with so many visitors due to the nearby Sywell event and that this will not be a regular occurrence.
