Busselton, Bunbury, Myalup, Serpentine & Jandakot – Monday 3rd February 2020 (Mark Paulin)

Evening all,

After enjoying a couple of days of the beach and sunny Fringe Weather I had decided on a road trip today I guessed rightly that the roads would be pretty quiet as this morning was the mass return to work and school after the long Summer break.

I left the Apartment at just about 9am this morning for the 250km drive South on the Kwinana Freeway to my first port of call at Busselton.

Logged 1135 – 1145

In all around 20 here with a new RFDS hanger under construction.

I then headed the 50km to Bunbury. A large airfield with around 75 light present. Most hangers open and those that weren’t had glass backs to them so the contents could easily be seen

Sadly just the one of interest to me:

Next was to find my last Wrecks and Relics item on my list for WA. Looking at Google Earth I wasnt sure that I would be able to see it as it is within the grounds of a private House. Fortunately it was very easy to find and see. As you head North on the 1 you pass through Myalup. Soon after the village is a sign to Finn Road and a Limestone Quarry on the left. Take Finn Road and follow it for about 2.5 km. As you crest the brow of a hill hey presto right in front of you you will see the DC3 that I was after. If you reach the point where the tarmac runs out and the gravel starts you have gone too far.

Next call was Murrayfield Airfield where Perth Skydiving are located. In all around 20 here. Just two of interest to me and both already seen at Jandakot!

I then headed to Serpentine Airfield which is home to Sport Aircraft Australia. Whilst I didn’t expect to make anything at least I was able to find the airfield despite not a single sign. However, it was all locked up. I guess any visit here is probably best at weekends. There were around half a dozen hangers so looks like could be quite a few present.

Last call of the day was Jandakot. Noted 1500 – 1730 that have not been seen before

Having struggled to find VH-LWZ EMB500 this was parked on the apron right next to the viewing area!! I guess China Southern are also back to work today after the Australian Summer and Chinese New Year!
