As a 3 day trip, we will visit the ILA event which is held every two years at Schonefeld. Having visited every event since 2004, we find this to be an interesting show on a par with Farnborough & Paris. There is usually a good attendance from the German military.
It is planned to fly to and met up at Berlin/Tegel on the morning of Tuesday 12th May. We will spend Tuesday 12th and Thursday 14th taking in the excellent museums to be found in and around Berlin and also spend some time at Berlin/Tegel airport which is still active due to Berlin/Brandenburg still not being open yet. Our two nights accommodation will be close to Berlin/Tegel airport so as to maximise our time there. Those not interested in doing the museums can choose to stay at Berlin/Tegel.
On Wednesday 13th, we will drive to the ILA site on the yet to be opened Berlin/Brandenburg Airport side of Schonefeld and do the opening day of the show. Afterwards, we will visit nearby Schonhagen airfield which usually yields around 150 aircraft as not only does it have a lot based there but ILA flying visitors are also directed there.
Of course we will visit the two superb Berlin museums. Firstly the main German forces museum (Luftwaffenmuseum der Bundeswehr) at the former RAF station Berlin/Gatow. Expect to see around 100 aircraft here. Then into the city centre where the Deutsches Technikmuseum is located. Another 40 aircraft here and between these two museums, you will see a good representation of German military types.
Also to be visited is the excellent Luftfahrtmuseum Finowfurt located at Finow, around a 1 hour drive from Berlin. 30 aircraft can be expected to be seen. Whilst out there, we are also close to the private collection at Zehdenick which has around 23 aircraft. You will see a lot over the three days visiting Berlin!
Trip cost is £285 which includes flights from LGW/LHR or MAN, two nights accommodation & ground transport.
Not included are food or museum/ILA entrance fees.
