Hi all,
What a fantastic day spent at the Royal International Air Tattoo. I now have a routine of going with the good lady and so it makes for a busy morning going around the large static areas and then spending a relaxing afternoon with the wife watching the varied and interesting flying display.
The main themes of the show celebrated the 50th anniversary of the F-16 Fighting Falcon, 75th anniversary of NATO, 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force, 50th anniversary of the Qatar Emiri Air Force and Pushing the Boundaries in Air and Space which highlighted the important work of Flight Test & Evaluation in modern aviation.
2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the F-16 Fighting Falcon’s first flight and to celebrate this, the Royal International Air Tattoo along with Lockheed Martin arranged for there to be the largest static line-up of F-16s from around the world, we will have seen for ages and probably never again in such numbers at an airshow. It was a nice touch for the Ukrainian roundel to be present on the weapons pylon of J-616 which displayed the roundels of all past and present F-16 operators.
So, so many highlights to be seen in the static areas and I’m sure that we will have our own version. I was particularly impressed by the Canadian and Qatari anniversary static areas and I hope that RIAT keep doing these as the Italian 100th last year was great too. The F-16 line-up as mentioned above, must have taken some effort, and the way they were presented was a credit to RIAT organisers too.
If I’m to be pressed on one particular thing, it will be the Yellow Sparrows of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. What a flight over from Norway in these rarely seen MFI-15s and they also did a fantastic display of close formation flying, which was also matched by the Royal Jordanian Falcons. Of course, I have many other favourites like the Canadian CF-188/CH-146 & CC-295, Finnish Vinka, French Alize, Greek & Turkish F-4s, Jordanian/Moroccan & Romanian F-16s, Qatar F-15s & NH90, Serbian C295, Saudi F-15, Spanish AV-8s & SF-5Ms, Top Aces A-4N and Turbo Firecat to name but a few…..
I’m already looking forward to the 2025 edition. Bring it on!

Thanks for sharing your photos Grant. I was only there on the Monday so it was great to pictures from the ground.
Unfortunately I’m not into military aircraft, but this report and photographs is superb. Best I’ve seen so far.
Regards, Eric
